Arrivals Or Departures
by James Keller

Is it dawn or dusk in this unknown place,
Do those boxes in an empty house
Indicate moving in or moving out?
What are we to make of those people
At the airport? Saying goodbye
Or happy reunion––both call forth tears.

In that fluroscent-lit hospital hall,
Those people seated there.
Are they waiting anxiously
For news of birth or death?

Is that couple clutching each other
In the shadow of a doorway
Greeting each other for a second time
Or parting, saying goodbye forever?
